MAINTENANCE & MONITORING
Know When to Act: Total Acid Number (TAN) Monitoring
Monitoring your TAN helps maximise hydraulic fluid lifespan and performance — and, by extension, your equipment. Monitoring TAN protects three things:
Replacement threshold: For QUINTOLUBRIC® 888, replacement is recommended when the TAN reaches 8.0 mg KOH/g.
COMPATIBILITY
Compatible with Mineral Oil, Polyol Ester, and Most Hydraulic System Materials
Because of built-in compatibility with most mineral oil and polyol ester-type hydraulic fluids, the QUINTOLUBRIC® 888 line works with a wide range of materials — including multi-component epoxy coatings and ferrous and nonferrous alloys. It is also rated safe for standard materials like NBR (ISO 1629).
Excellent miscibility ensures smooth blending and operation. And superior lubrication properties extend pump life — helping you save operationally with longer-lasting equipment.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Compatible with Mineral Oil, Polyol Ester, and Most Hydraulic System Materials
1) What is QUINTOLUBRIC® 888 and what makes it different from mineral oil hydraulic fluids?
Answer: QUINTOLUBRIC® 888 is a fire-resistant hydraulic fluid that’s polymer-free, biodegradable, and FM-approved, designed for demanding applications where fire risk and performance both matter.
2) Is QUINTOLUBRIC® 888 compatible with mineral oil or other hydraulic fluids?
Answer: Yes. The QUINTOLUBRIC® 888 line is described as compatible/miscible with most mineral oil and polyol ester-type hydraulic fluids, supporting smoother changeovers and operation across common system materials.
3) When should I replace QUINTOLUBRIC® 888 based on Total Acid Number (TAN)?
Answer: Replacement is recommended when TAN reaches 8.0 mg KOH/g—monitoring TAN helps protect equipment from corrosion, wear, and performance loss as the fluid degrades over time.
4) How do I convert to QUINTOLUBRIC® 888 from petroleum-based oil?
Answer: Best practices involve fully draining petroleum-based oil (including reservoirs, lines, cylinders, accumulators, and filter housings), then refilling and cycling the system, flushing for several hours, and topping off with QUINTOLUBRIC® 888 to finish. Contact our team for more information.
5) Can I switch from water-glycol (HFC/HFB) fluids to QUINTOLUBRIC® 888?
Answer: Yes—but water-based fluid should be removed before adding QUINTOLUBRIC® 888, using a recommended flushing fluid, cycling/flush time (including extended flushing where possible), then filling with QUINTOLUBRIC® 888 and rechecking levels. Contact our team for more information.
